As the story continues, we see several worlds colliding in the lives of Miles, Peter, and MJ. Miles, a student at Brooklyn Visions Academy, sees all of his friends solidifying their plans for college—but he is feeling left out. He’s been so focused on other things; he hasn’t had time to think about the future.

The bite causes Miles to gain super powers, matching Spider-Man’s but with the additional abilities to generate bioelectric attack and go invisible. After Miles shares his developing powers to Peter, Peter reveals he is Spider-Man, with powers of his own. Peter agrees to mentor Miles into following in his footsteps as his own Spider-Man. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has plenty of villains that Spider-Man has either fought or has yet to fight throughout the game. Many of the hero’s previous supervillains have actually rehabilitated, and now attempt to live a normal life in New York City.

Where the first game starred Peter Parker, and its spin-off starred Miles, this one has both. Story missions choose for you, but often swap seamlessly between them as the action demands. Out in the open world, you’re free to change at will, with only a handful of activities requiring one or the other. In keeping with Insomniac’s track record, the music behind it all is stellar, with Miles’ and Peter’s respective signature tunes playing depending on who you’re controlling. A highlight, though, is the theme that follows in Kraven’s footsteps, which bears more than a passing resemblance to Howard Shore’s Uruk-hai war march from The Lord of the Rings score.

Peter befriends Jefferson’s son, Miles Morales, and persuades him to volunteer at F.E.A.S.T. Kraven injects Connors with a new Lizard serum, turning him into the iconic giant creature. This version has a full-fledged alligator look, nodding to Mortal Kombat 1’s Reptile. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 includes a plethora of suits for both Miles and Peter, but some outrank others in terms of style.
